How do period panties work?
How to choose period-proof panties
Let’s get started on finding the best period panties for you. Here’s all the steps you need to think about when choosing your new menstrual underwear.
1. Find your period panty fit
Start with choosing your favourite period panty style from Female Engineering's extensive range, whether you prefer briefs, boxers, or nearly invisible design. Perhaps different days call for different fits? For example, you may want a pair of Sleep period panties for heavy flow days, some classic brief period panties for those days in between, and a thong for the last few days where you just want to feel secure. No matter your unique flow, there are fits to match your body.

2. Find your absorbency level
Female Engineering’s period panties offer various absorbency levels, no matter if you have a light or heavy flow.
Mini and Light are perfect for lighter days, at the beginning or end of your period. Mini offer reliable coverage when a panty liner would suffice.
Medium and Mid-High are ideal for steady days in the middle of your period. Equivalent to changing regular pads or tampons every four hours or three times a day.
High and Super absorbency levels are designed for heavy flows, equivalent to changing a regular pad or tampon five times a day. Experience our most high-performing protection throughout your period.

When it comes to sizing of period panties, we recommend choosing your usual size. Female Engineering's period-proof panties are designed to initially feel snug and then relax with washing and wear, ensuring the perfect fit. Sizes range from XS-3XL for women and 134-170 for teens.

Frequently asked questions
Are period panties leak-proof even if you bleed heavily?
Female Engineering make period-proof underwear for all flow levels, from light to heavy bleeders. For those that bleed more, we recommend starting out by wearing the period panty at home during a heavy bleeding day. That will put it to the test and make it easier to figure out how it works.
How long do period panties last?
Female Engineering’s period panties are made to last at least 50 washes. The number of washes is determined by the gusset absorption layer in the Engineered Leak Tech™, which is treated with an odour control treatment that controls the development of odour in the panties. It tends to lose a little bit of effectiveness after 50 washes. It is likely that the function of the panty will last longer though, but 50 washes is what we can guarantee. However, the fabric, form and fit of the panty will last a lot longer. If a panty is worn and washed once per menstruation cycle, it will last around 4 years.
How much blood can the period underwear hold?
Our period-proof underwear come in different absorbency levels, much like disposable menstrual products. Here are all our absorbency levels: 5 ml Mini ≈ ½ tampon/panty liner 10 ml Light ≈ 1 tampon/pad 20 ml Medium ≈ 2 tampons/pads 30 ml Mid-High ≈ 3 tampons/pads 40 ml High ≈ 4 tampons/ pads 50 ml Super ≈ 5 tampons/ pads
Can period panties be used for incontinence?
Period panties from Female Engineering are primarily designed to absorb menstrual flow, but they are also capable of absorbing a small amount of other bodily fluids if needed. Our period panties are not classified as medical products and are therefore not intended to be used for any medical purposes, such as treatment, relief of or compensation for a possible illness, injury or disability. If you experience medical problems, you should therefore firstly seek out medical guidance from a healthcare professional.
