In the eighties the book "the Official Preppy Handbook", written by Lisa Birnbach, was released and the films the Breakfast Club and Pretty in Pink was the hot thing to see at cinema. The well-dressed style with all its attributes and accessories got a chance to reach a greater audience. To put it simply, it was hot to be preppy.
